The Vision of the institute embodies a plan to make global education and healthcare a reality regardless of race, ethnicity, color, sexual orientation, gender identification, age, socioeconomic status, nationality, religion, geographical location, ability/disability, and/or veteran status.

The Purpose of the institute is to create programs and initiatives grounded in healthcare education, research, clinical practice, and administration (policy) to reach educational and health equity.  The concepts of diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, antiracism, interprofessionalism, and quality improvement will be an integral part of these programs and initiatives.  Flexible offices and classes will serve as the initial platforms for development, implementation, progress monitoring, and delivery of health education and services to ameliorate health disparities and improve equity and outcomes.  The objective is to build an educational institute and support a diverse college of health professions to service the Mississippi Delta and beyond to address the social determinants of health and health disparities (inequities).  The overarching goal is to create a culture of belonging in education and healthcare.

Key Interprofessional Partnerships in education, healthcare, the community, government, and research contribute to the foundation of the institute.  Partnerships are inclusive of the Diverse Coat Society.

Please support and partner with J R Young Health Equity Institute on its trajectory to build a model for a healthier Mississippi Delta and beyond. This model will be disseminated statewide, nationally, and eventually internationally to improve education and health equity. See the Institutional Outcomes.

The diverse coat society®

The Diverse Coat Society

Professional Association and Retail

The Diverse Coat Society® (DCS) was founded in July 2022 by Geraldine Q. Young, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, CDCES, FAANP.

The DCS is a society of diverse educators and healthcare professionals coming together to provide conversations, activities, and support for interprofessional goals leading to educational and health equity and general public safety. Intersectionality and Black Coat Conversations (BCC)© are at the core of the group’s purpose. The goal of the society is to spread their purpose through visibility and professional association. The logo is symbolic of  our interprofessional roles as we wear different coats in society that will intersect to reach educational and health equity. In this professional association, you have the option to wear whatever color coat you want.  Historically, the color is white. The foundational color of this group is black.  However, we focus on all shades of the skin which is a representation of all.

The DCS serves as a professional advisory group for the J R Young Health Equity Institute.

The society also provides quality retail services for the institute, including apparel, paraphernalia, gifts, books, and other educational resources to support its mission.
